Ecuadorian flowers attract Chinese importers
Ecuador received the visit of the Chinese group “China Flower Exchange Market” in September this year. The Ecuadorian flower exports to China registered a volume growth of 164 percent during the first half of 2015, in comparison to the same period in 2014.
The Chinese importers visited Quito, Latacunga y Cayambe, with the purpose of touring the flower farms located there and getting to know the flower industry better.
Pro Ecuador, through its trade office in Shanghai, organized the trade mission in order to increase flower exports to China. During the visit, the project of establishing the “China Flower Exchange Market” at the free-trade zone of Shanghai was introduced to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Pro Ecuador, Expoflores and flower farms, explaining the mutual benefits for both countries.
The project “China Flower Exchange Market” in Shanghai is expected to become a platform for Ecuador to increase its flower exports through the improvement of the cold chain logistics in China, which will allow Ecuadorian flowers to reach inland cities. The project is also expected to facilitate the deals between Chinese importers and Ecuadorian flower farms and reduce logistics costs with the cooperation of China Eastern Airlines.
The Chinese importers visited five flower farms: Inor Flowers, Florpaxi, Rosaprima, Vegaflor and Bellarosa. It is evident that the Ecuadorian flower growing sector is interested in continuing working towards a sustainable increase of their sales in China.
