COL: Flower exports increase by 8% in H1
The Colombian Association of Flower Exporters (Asocolflores) announced that their flower exports increased by 8% with regard to value and 3.5% with regard to volume during the first half of the year.Colombia exports flowers to 90 different countries with United States and Japan being the main destination markets, which registered an increase of 9% in value and 19% in volume respectively.
Total flower exports from Colombia amounted to USD 785 million, figure that was reached thanks to the increase of tons exported to the United States (99,000) and Japan (4,323), representing a growth of 2,000 and 600 tons respectively.
Among flower types, carnations maintain the leadership. The Colombian export of carnations to the United States registered an increase of 7.4% with regard to value and 3.3% with regard to volume, compared to the same period last year. However, chrysanthemum was the species that registered the greatest growth during this period, with an increase of more than 100% with regard to value and volume.
