Announcement: KB Farms Will Close its Cut Flower Division after Valentine’s Day 2024.Kitayama Brothers, Inc. located in Watsonville, CA is announcing the KB Farms cut flower division will close after Valentine’s Day 2024. KB Farms has been growing flowers for 75 years and it is time for our flowers to retire. Over the past several years, it has become very difficult to be profitable in flowers. Every aspect of our flower business is more expensive, labor is in very short supply, increased regulations create huge challenges and the price of flowers does not keep pace with all these costs. Flowers has been KB Farms’ business and identity for a long time. We are proud of the fact that we were once the largest cut flower growers in the US, but that was many years ago. The Kitayama family has great love for the flowers we have grown and enjoyed working with the many customers and partners who have become our friends. This was not an easy decision emotionally, but the right decision financially. The flower industry has allowed the Kitayama and our employee’s families to thrive and make a living, for that we will always be thankful.
Kitayama Brothers, Inc. is not closing, we have a bright future in other agricultural crops and leasing our warehouses, greenhouses and fields. We are currently in negotiations with other cut flower companies and we believe that flowers will continue to be part of our farm in the future.
Remember, we will still be growing and selling flowers till Valentine’s Day 2024, so please call your KB Farms sales representative for more details and to place orders. We have worked through countless flower holidays, help us to finish our last Valentine’s Day with a bang!
